The Story Behind This Project

Effugium is a first-person horror walking simulator that relies on environmental storytelling to create a terrifying world.

This game was a project in the Interactive Design and Production class of Spring 2022. I made it with my amazing co-designer/director/developer Varun. This was made over the scope of 4 and a half months and followed professional production methodologies, like Method and Agile.

I jointly worked on Game Design Macro, maintained a burndown chart, and created and presented milestone versions of the game. We conducted regular playtests and brain trust meetings where we discussed feedback.

Funny story, the game initially was supposed to be a gravity-defying 3D puzzle platformer, but as the project evolved, after reviewing feedback from initial prototypes, a more grounded approach was adopted for the game. The environment was well-liked by the playtesters and hence, we went with the environment, instead of the mechanic.
